The owners of this gorgeous Upper West Side two-bedroom apartment had a vision to restore it back to its classic prewar condition. Due to the wear and tear the apartment had endured over the past 100 years, some of the once beautiful details were past the point of restoration but others were not.
We were able to restore all of the 100-year-old custom doors including the main entrance door. We recreated the 5-ft-tall wall panels with over 18 different pieces of wood and moldings.
Along the way, we discovered that the north facing walls were once brick but had been covered with old gypsum block. We were able to restore and repoint the beautiful 100-year-old bricks and bring them back to their original condition with applied wood casing around the windows. We custom built all of the door frames, transom windows, and installed custom stained glass throughout and built the incredibly detailed, custom accordion french doors.
The client envisoned having a classic traditional inspired kitchen to complement the architecture and detailing throughout the rest of the space. The tiny kitchen area (less than 8 feet across) was fully maximized with extra deep upper storage and clever configuration to get the most function out of a very small footprint. Underneath the kitchen/dining room window was the perfect place for a custom bench and bookshelves with hidden storage.
